I've burnt my first DVD9-->DVD5 DVD-R and the movie is skipping during playback - I've made several coasters!
I'm using Bulkpaq DVD-Rs and PrimoDVD to burn on a Pioneer A03 at 1X.

Is the skipping due to Pioneer firmware (currently at 1.4x) or the Bulkpaq DVD-Rs?

Will upgrading to firmware 1.68 cure the problem or is it the media at fault?

If media, which should I buy that are reliable?? (i.e. so that I don't have to watch the movie again to make sure it doesn't jump).

If firmware, is it worth upgrading - what do I get?

Probably the media however you could upgrade, I upgraded using official firmware update as multi region not important to me. I use white label, traxdata, fws no skipping from those I have never tried bulkpaq though.

Yes mate it is the bulkpaq I had the same problem stay away from those and I am running F/W 1.80 now with no issues although others have had problems with this F/W so you may want to try 1.68.

I'm wary of flashing so will probably try diff DVD-Rs first.
Also, I'm not too fussed about 2x recording.
Am I better getting Generation 3 discs?

I use princo unbranded mate from www.121cdr.co.uk they have been really relaible for me to be honest and for the price you can't complain !

Also try www.bigpockets.co.uk but I'd avoid the Princo for movies.....I've only tried one, but it was pretty crap.

gen 2 are much much better
