K...hi.

This is more urgent than my other prob.

On my sister's Win98 machine, Win 98 loads but there isn't a Task bar or any icons. I've tried Scan/reg restore and loaded a registry backup from the day before. What else can I do

Edit:

Also tried entering Safe Mode. (same thing happens)

Tried deleting:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\StuckRects

Thanks for the reply....but Can't right-click. I think it's because explorer.exe isn't loading properly. So it's NO ICONS and NO TASKBAR.

Stuck with the mouse pointer and the wallpaper.

If you don't you may have problems from here on out, until you do a fresh install

Thanks for the reply

I'll need to recover the data first. I'm trying to reinstall windows on it.....probably won't do much good but I'm trying it. Microsoft knowledge base says I could try re-extracting some Dll files so I'm gonna try that too. Only thing is I don't know where the cab files are. Should I try it? The fix seems to be for IE 5 and I've got IE 6.

EDIT: It did some good. I now have the taskbar and icons but the number of error boxes that popped up wasn't much fun. I'll do as you suggest and do a clean install. Thanks :)

It's sorted now but once was from Norton A/V saying there was virus like activity writing to the boot sector. Others include Illegal Operation, Norton couldn't start, etc, etc.

I did a clean install. Took 4 hours but it's up and running ^^
