I ALSO HAVE ANOTHER PC PROBLEM

OK HERES WHAT I WANT TO DO BUT HAVE TRIED A COUPLE OF IDEAS AND CANT GET IT TO WORK

LETS SAY MY PC IS LEFT ON OVER NIGHT DOING SOMETHING...
IN THE MORNING ITS NOT YET FINISHED AND I HAVE TO GO TO WORK..
BUT THE PC WILL BE FINISHED IN A HOUR OR SO..

IS THERE A WAY THAT I CAN PUT A TIMER ON THE PC AND SAY IN 6/7HOURS THE PC WILL CLOSE ALL PROGRAMS AND SHUT DOWN
(NOT HIBERNATE BUT A PROPER SHUT DOWN)?

YOU KNOW YOU CAN SET YOUR PC SO AFTER SO MANY MINUTES IF NOTHING IS TOUCH THE SCREEN SAVER COMES ON

WELL AFTER A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME IF I DON'T USE ANY SOUND THE SOUND TURNS OFF
SO IF I TRY AND PLAY A MP3 NO SOUND
OR WINDOWS BLEEPS NO BLEEPS
OR NO SOUND IN AOL
SO SOUND ON ANY PROGRAM??

you could try setting your power options via the control panel to turn your hard disk off after a certain amount of time being idle ,so providing you only had this task running when it was finished the comp should power down to what you set it {in theory}.have a look at your power options the answer should be there.

IS SHUTTING THE HARDDISK THE SAME AS A SHUT DOWN?

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY

no it isn't it just stops the HD to save on wear and tear and power.
try searching on download.com for it (try stuff like shut down etc)

You might want to try NOT USING CAPS THE WHOLE TIME IN YOUR POSTS...

Its considered as shouting and is bad nettiquette.

Load up MS Task Scheduler.

Use this command line for one time use at a specified time:
C:\WIN98\RUNDLL.EXE user.exe,exitwindows

Works great. Before, I used to use those automatic shutdown program but very frequently they don't work at all. The above method works everytime, never failed me once.
