Just wondering what dma settings you are using for your plex 40 speed to get the best performance?? for some reason, with my abit KT7Pro raid motherboard, plex as master on secondry IDE, burning an image from hard disk which is master on Primary channel, in nero took just over 3 minutes at 16 speed, and just over 5 minutes at 24 speed due to the buffer yoyoing like mad. with via ide tool the drive is set to Multiword DMA mode 2, but I cant change it to any of the others, ie ultra dma 33 etc. for some reason it just goes straight back to that after a reboot.

Any ideas anyone??

Thanks

I have similar problem , I have a Epox raid board and Plex 40X is on primary master and defaults to PIO only mode even though the BIOS says its DMA33. Booting into Win 98 gives DMA and full speed burning .To stop the buffer yo-yo ing slow the writing down to 8X and everything will okay.
If anybody has a solution for this problem please let me know as well please .

Are you both using the correct type of IDE cable? 80-pin conductor. You'll need this if you want to go higher than UDMA/33. The regular 40-pin conductor IDE cables will only transfer up to UDMA/33.

yep gambit, thought of that, so I got some nice new ones, but cant even go as hish as UDMA 33 never mind faster. If only. Im sure it must be some sort of setting or driver problem, but god knows what.

I managed to fix mine by updating to the latest via 4 in 1 drivers and renoving the IDE channels and letting XP update them
