Can someone please explain to me the difference between a switch and a hub?

I have 7 PC's that I wish to connect via peer to peer networking and also one printer that I'll probably setup as a network printer (rather than a shared printer).

One machine will be acting as a 'master' for file storing and Internet access etc.

Thanks in advance.

So Do I need to use a switch AND a hub or can I just use a switch?

Thanks for that link...

Very helpful.

No you just need a switch. (switchs are better than hubs)

At the risk of it being a stupid question....

Switches use the same RJ45 cables as a hub, yeah?

Well RJ45 is the name of the connector at the end of the cable, but the answear is still the same.
