I will be doing quite a lot of movie reencoding, etc soon and am trying to decide which is the best way to go about it.

Presuming all drives are the same speed, would data that is being recoded (ie you have a source file, from which the data is recoded then written to a new file at the same time) be done quicker if it was being written to a different drive or the same drive? I imagine that writing to a different partition on the same drive would be much slower......

It would be faster if you use separate physical drives.
