I USE A CD-RW WITH DIRECT CD FORMAT TO MAKE A BACK-UP OF MY FILES, I FOUND MORE USEFUL AND EASY TO MAKE A SIMPLE COPY OF MY FILES, BUT ONE DAY, WHEN I WAS FINISHED TO MOVE FILES TO CD-RW, I TRIED TO EJECT IT BUT NOTHING HAPPEND. I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES AND FINALY GET MY CD OUT.
THE PROBLEM IS: WHEN I TRY TO ACCES SPECIFIED FOLDERS, MY SYSTEM HANGS !!!, I THINK IT WAS A PROBLEM WHEN I PUT FILES IN THE CD, I RUN THE SCANDISC OF ROXIO EASY CD CREATOR BUT A APPEARS A MESSAGE "UNEXPECTED ERROR", I TRIED TO FIXED AND READ IT IN MANY DRIVES WITH THE SAME RESULT. I NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE, I NEED THOSE FILES!!!!!!!.
WHAT CAN I DO?????

PS: SORRY BY MY BAD ENGLISH, IT SUCKS, I NOW.

THANX

You have encountered one of the problems with packet writing. Yes Direct CD lets you format a CD-R/W and then use it like a giant floppy however in the process of copying files to the CD it stores some data in the VFAT which is supposed to be written to the CD when you eject the disk. People should use the software eject process by clicking the Direct CD icon to eject but many people press the drive button to eject. Sometimes this works fine but you can run into trouble. If the disk ejects before the data from the VFAT is written to the CD then you can end up with a coaster. Always eject Direct CD disks using the software eject. If your system crashes a lot (which Windows Me is prone to do) then you should never use Direct CD because if you leave a CD in the drive and the system crashes then the data from the VFAT is not written to the disk and you have a coaster.

If you really need to get the files off the CD then you will need to get CD-R Diagnostics which is simply the best application for recovering files off a damaged packet formatted CD www.cdrom-prod.com/cd-r_diagnostic.html This program will cost you about $50 US but it is well worth the money if you decide to use Direct CD on a regular basis.

Please do not post with the CAPS key turned on. This is considered to be rude when writing as it looks like you are shouting at us.
