View Full Version : Getting erratic playback speeds

I'm not entirely sure this is a CDRW problem but I record a lot of multitrack music sessions on my machine and use an old Acer 4X2 CDRW to back-up projects on. I do my back-ups as data files. I've noticed that sometimes when I bring a project back into my box from the CD that the playback speed may be off a little. Any idea what's causing this? I'm figuring it's gotta be either the CDRW (which is old but not used much), the VIA drivers (they aren't the latest but aside from this ocassional problem they work fine so Idon't want to change them if I can help it), or a soundcard problem (SB Live.) I'm using W98 2nd Ed, 500 meg PIII, 256K Ram, Easy CD Creator.

Could it have to do with the way I have Easy CD's options setup? I've been using mode 2 for everything/Joliet file system, set to:Preserve normal file ordering and Single data track only.

I record everything at the SB's default rate of 16/48 and then dither the finished projects to 16/44.1 with no problems. Also, this problem only seems to occur now and then. And yes, I keep my video set to only 16-bit colors and sometimes even drop it down to 256 colors to improve system resources while tracking. I really don't think my video settings are interfering. And my SB is on it's own IRQ.
