Just wondered if anyone had any experience of playing SVCD's in Sony DVD Players? I'm thinking about some of the newer models such as the Sony DVP-NS305 or the DVP-NS700V. None of the specifications say that they do as they just quote VCD but does this include SVCD? Just wondered! :round:

Thanks
Simon.

Thanks for that. I checked about the VCDHelp site and it was really useful for the compatibility charts. Looks like the Pioneer's are much more SVCD friendly and they play Mp3's :)

Thanks.

DON'T expect any DVD player to play any formats that aren't included at the box! If the format isn't mentioned, it won't play it! Unfortunately those kind of generosity are very rare and I stilll haven't heard/read of any...

I have the Sony DVDP- 536p and it plays VCD'S AND SVCD'S, :D even though it didn't say anything about it on the box but I have found that only 2 brands of media will work, DATASAFE 80m the ones with the blue dye to the write surface which I have been told are no longer being manufactured and the other is VIVISTAR 80m, I haven't tried DVDR-s yet, so if anyone has this player and knows if they will play let me know, Oh! and it doesn't play Mp3's :( never mind 2 out of 3 aint bad.

P.S Don't know if it makes a differance but I have had it chipped to make it multi region the chip has also dissabled macrovision.
