Just got my Dvdr and been trying to get it up and running.

Is it possible to read from the dvd writer to an image file and then use this same writer to write the image, as i have been having problems trying to do this using Nero?

Tried using the wizard etc without any joy.

Thanx.....

You should be able to do that with any non protected DVD.

If you are trying to do it with a commercial DVD (movie etc) then it's probably protected and you will need to use something like smartripper.

See the dvd2dvdr guide.

If its a movie you are talking about I tend to use the Smartripper backup function then I can make sure it region free and macro disabled only takes 5-10 mins also good for encrypted DVD5s. Then you have a video_ts folder then all you have to do is rename it to uppercase VIDEO_TS and create an empty AUDIO_TS folder burn a data disk with these 2 folders. Simple. (Better results with prassi though)

You should be able to use Nero to do a straight 1:1 copy of a DVD but don't use the wizard. Click on the new project icon, choose the DVD copy option from the "new compilation" box that appears and go through the tabs until you get to "copy options" - make sure that the source drive is your DVD Writer and untick the box "on the fly" which should make sure that nero uses the hard drive for a temporary image file. Finally go to the "burn" option and you should find that the source disc is read to the Hard Drive and then you'll be prompted to insert a blank DVD afterwards. It's works for me anyway. Hope that helps.

Oh, I forgot to mention that this method works fine for both DVD-R and Silvers. I've had 100% successs with Nero doing it this way.
