mp3pro Jul 01, 2002, 02:47 PM I'm using win 98, thanx for the advice
toofan Jul 01, 2002, 03:25 PM Dude, u probably have FAT32 partition. what u need to do is to make it NTFS. use partition magic. For once you get a error message you should understand :) "Write error : Only NTFS File System Supports Files Larger Than 4 GB " This means the dvd iso ur unraring is larger then 4gig and FAT partitions dont support that, so convert your hardisk to NTFS and then things will work.
Also read what I've written here, maybe its soemthing for you:

handyguy Jul 01, 2002, 06:27 PM w98 supports NTSF?
Odd. I thought it was for Xp or 2000 only.
Anyway, your file is too big.
Springfield_PD Jul 01, 2002, 08:17 PM Only xp and 2000 oh and NT(?), support NTFS. DON"T convert your win98 partitions to NTFS it will render them unbootable.
toofan Jul 01, 2002, 08:20 PM dude.... he doesnt have to convert the main partition. just make a partition large enough for xbox dvd isos, then make that partition NTFS!
Springfield_PD Jul 02, 2002, 11:41 AM Doesn't matter, 98 still won't be able to read or write it.
GoBlue34 Jul 02, 2002, 11:50 AM THey are right. Only NT, 2000, & XP support NTFS (maybe ME but that one I'm not sure of but who wants ME???)
deniro-s Jul 02, 2002, 01:15 PM Yeah, you are all right. First of all you need an NTFS file system to make any single file that is larger than a specified amount. There are however iso tools that take the extracted iso from rars and split it into two 2 gig images directly from winrar, thereby avoiding the max file size problem. I can't remember what this util is because I run XP with an NTFS drive, but I'm sure you can find it by searching in the ps2 backup forum, thats where there was a thread about it.
Also, I think springfield_pd is right when he says 98 cant read an ntfs partition. There may be some third party software that will make an ntfs partition visible under windows 98, but 98 will definately not see the partition on its own, and this third party software may not work as well as using winxp or win2k with an ntfs formatted drive....again thats what I would suggest you do if you're gonna be d/l'ing alot of large game images.
But if you ask me, its amuch better option to just upgrade to xp or win2k, since 98 is a peice of crap and that way you won't have to worry about lame workarounds like splitting images into two files, etc.
Springfield_PD Jul 02, 2002, 02:10 PM Or you could use linux, ext2/3 may not support large, I'm not sure, files but rieser and jfs do for sure.
