boot with a recovery disk.. fdisk. delete all partitions.. ALL. restart.. make new primary partition. format it. put win2k disk on tray. set bios to boot from cd. install and presto. pretty easy really.

dr_casper, you call that easy? Suggesting that he Reinstall the entire OS just to fix a simple problem is stupid.

neokeyrulerz, you need to edit your boot.ini and remove the reference to Windows 98. See this thread:

It's a hidden, system file on the root of your harddrive. You need to change your folder options to show hidden and system files.

Then just open the boot.ini with notepad and set
timeout=0

If you're unsure about what to change then you better post it first so people can take a look at it. It's possible to lock yourself out of the system if you mess up the boot.ini

Yes, the root of your harddrive is usually C:

Once you find the boot.ini, post it.

You need to "Show Hidden files and folders" and uncheck the "Hide protected Operating system files" in the Folder Options.

Windows 98 files should be in one directory and Windows 2000 should be in another. All you need to do is delete the correct directory.

If you would post your boot.ini someone could tell you exactly what to delete...

Hi,

To remove Win9x in dual boot you need to delete the Windows folder, if there are any programs installed in Windows 98, you may want to uninstall these programs (using Add/Remove programs) feature in Control Panel before deleting the folder.

Delete the folder that contains Windows 98 (by default, this is the C:\Windows folder on the local hard disk).

You also need to manually edit the Boot.ini file to remove Windows 98 from the list of boot options.

To edit the Boot.ini file:
In Windows Explorer, click Folder Options on the View menu.
On the View tab, click Show All Files , and then click OK .
Click the root folder of the local hard disk, right-click the Boot.ini file, and then click Properties .
Click to clear the Read-Only , Hidden , and System check boxes, and then click OK .

Open the Boot.ini file, remove any entries that no longer point to valid installations of Windows, Which is in your case "C:\=Microsoft Windows" save the changes and then restore its attributes by selecting the check boxes you unticked previously.

Hope that helps.

How do I delete the Win98 folder?
Double clik my computer, then Local C:\ drive, locate the folder Windows, right click on it, then click delete, excatly the same answer applies on your second post after mine.

Why does it ask me to log on as administrator?
When you installed Win2k, you had the option to store the password, which you didnt, or assume that the computer is always accessed by the administrator, which you selected "Yes", and there is nothing wrong with this setup, once you create different users in local users and groups, you can log on as the user created with different name and password.
