neokeyrulerz Jul 06, 2002, 06:48 PM Windows 2000 Setup disks or the Windows 2000 Professional CD
Hi, if i only have the Windows 2000 Professional CD, but not the Windows 2000 setup disks, then can i still install Windows 2000 Pros.
from a clean hard drive. I means that i just format my hard drive so it's doesn't have any data in the hard drive now. It's a clean hard drive
and i want to install Windows 2000 Pro. on it, but can i if i don't have the start up disk.
Well, my Windows 2000 Pro. CD is a bootable cd-rom
neokeyrulerz Jul 06, 2002, 06:51 PM I want to install it from a blank harddrive, but can i do that without the setup disk but with just the cdrom. I don't want to install it from an old version of windows or to upgrade it.
QWERTY Jul 06, 2002, 08:40 PM Think about what you're saying....You don't want to install Windows 2000 FROM a blank harddrive, you want to install it TO a blank harddrive.
Set your BIOS to boot to the CD then just boot the CD. Answer the prompts and it will partition, format, and install the OS for you.
neokeyrulerz Jul 06, 2002, 10:17 PM sorry, I always type without thinking, sorry :( anyways, so that's means i can install windows 200 without the setup disk right???
- thx a lot!!! :D lol
QWERTY Jul 07, 2002, 03:53 AM The setup disks are only needed if your system can't boot to the CD. It's the same install program running whether you boot to the CD or use the floppies.
cardtraderuk Jul 07, 2002, 10:12 AM if the cd is a genuine windows 2000 cd just change the boot sequence in the bios so cdrom is your first boot device ecsape f10 and yes then that should be thatjust follow on screen menu mate hope this helps
kind regards

uk_trader Jul 07, 2002, 10:08 PM If your hd is brand new you will need to boot from floppy to format it.
OuTcAst Jul 07, 2002, 10:15 PM You can make your own boot up disk w/ the windows 2000 pro cd. Put the cd into your cd-rom, and go to the dos prompt. change the directory to the letter of the cd-rom that has the windows 2000 cd in it. type "dir" and you should get a list of directory and executable files. One of them should be "bootdisk.exe" Type bootdisk in the dos prompt and it should guide you through the rest.
dcm386 Jul 07, 2002, 10:40 PM A friend of mine reformatted his computer and didn't have bootdiscs. There were no drivers for his CDROM and nothing on his HD. What I had to do was install DOS, then install a generic CD driver and then install Win98 from the CD. It doesn't really work unless you got your old dos discs laying arounf though :(
uk_trader Jul 07, 2002, 10:45 PM Basically thats what you do with a windows boot floppy disk but its done for you.
zedy Jul 07, 2002, 10:55 PM Windows 2k install will do all the fdisking and formatting required.
The cd is bootable but if your pc doesnt support boot from cd then the Win2k cd has a directory that contains a utility to create the 4 boot diskettes required.
