kox Jul 08, 2002, 02:03 PM as it says above........i'm using a sony dvd player (computer not stand alone) and a decent spec computer......1.6Ghz pentium4, geforce 3ti 200 graphics card, 80 gigabyte hard drive. Is it my gear or is it a common occurence on "backups". I play the vcd's on windows media player and the svcd's using windvd..............all help gratefully accepted.
nectarinefire645 Jul 08, 2002, 03:09 PM are you burning the s\vcd`s yourself? if so burn at a slower speed 12x or even 8x
w3dal Jul 08, 2002, 04:07 PM Hi,
What SONY player have u got??? i have the 405 and it plays VCD's fine, although ive only tried 2 types of media datasafe and verbatims.

Dal
freakshow Jul 09, 2002, 04:12 AM I couldnt get vcd's to play worth a crap in my dvd player either. All i did was put the vcd in my cdrw (lite-on) and still use power dvd 4 and it works fine now.You got another drive to try them in?
kox Jul 09, 2002, 03:14 PM right.......
nectarinefire645 - no i didn't do them myself,obtained them from different sources.
w3dal - the disks are all white tops, various cheap brands. not sure what model my sony dvd is.......
freakshow - also tried my vcd player (sony again) with the same problems.
..........thanks for replying............
kox Jul 09, 2002, 03:18 PM sorry freakshow , i meant to say i've tried it on my cd-rw which is also a sony..............cheers again.
nectarinefire645 Jul 10, 2002, 02:51 AM then it could be whoever you got them of has burnt them to quickly
ask them what speed they were burnt at.
w3dal Jul 10, 2002, 11:04 AM I agree could be the burn speed and also the quality of the media. The playback i had is supurb.
Good Media and slow burn speeds always give much better result, your just wasting your money if u go for cheaper deals.
SONY players are fussy enough about media, especially when it comes to playing VCD's and DVDR's
Cheers

kox Jul 10, 2002, 03:38 PM thanks all.....will be more choosy about my suppliers in future.....do you recommend anyone - who does good quality at a nice price, not to mention reliable.
Tony92 Jul 31, 2002, 01:44 PM A m8 of mine had a similar problem, turned out it wasnt the media/burn speed, but the software media player he was using, switched to PowerDVD, worked like a dream, try it out, you can D/L a demo version...............Tony92
azcoop Aug 01, 2002, 06:27 AM PowerDVD is the software to use. Trying copying the mpg or dat file to hard drive and also checking the hardware accelerator box in WinDVD options menu. This way you are not dependant on your DVD/Writer drive.
From the spec of your PC it's more than enough to get decent playback!!
kox Aug 02, 2002, 02:57 PM cheers tony92 and azcoop, i'm off to download powerdvd now - i'll let you know how i get on.............cheers
kox Aug 07, 2002, 07:20 PM sorted..........cheers all
