Hello guys,

I see there's a few suppliers in the stickies in this forum, but I guess I'm looking for something more specific, plus some good refs.

I'm looking to get a new system, probably an Athlon system.

I've looked in Computer Shopper and the like, but what I'm really looking for is the small business type operator who can do me a good package/customised package. I'm talking the type of guys you see selling on ebay or at computer fairs or similar businesses. Seems you can get stuff for the same price including VAT as at bigger outfits for their ex-VAT prices.

Only problem is, I know that some of these don't exactly use the best parts and some are just downright dodgy.........argh!

So I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for any places near the London area. Or has anyone bought from the London computer fairs and been pleased with service received from the stallholder? If I hear personal refs I would be more inclined to buy and have greater peace of mind.

Pls post here, or if preferred email me at jairzinhoyelmundo@yahoo.co.uk

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the link m8. I checked it out, but their desktop systems aren't that great.

I'm looking for quite a budget system. I'm hoping I can get away with 500 quid max all in all including VAT.

I'm not that bothered about games anymore, I figure the consoles are gonna rule when it comes to games and that the PC is going to die in this respect.

So here goes:

512meg ram (for future proofing)
amd athlon
m/b - i have no idea whats good
on board sound will do
dvd and cd writer-don't mind going for a combo drive either
40 gig hd
no monitor needed
keyboard/speakers/mouse etc. already have or will replace myself later

although i could have a crack at building myself, quite honestly i don't have the time nor inclination to do this, i am willing to buy assembled for peace of mind.

so bearing in mind the above setup, what speed athlon do you all reckon i can get? 1.8??

At the price you are talking m8 , you wil be able to get a great system. Have you tried looking on ebay m8, there are loads of pc sellers on there and some of them you even tell them what you want and they will custom build it for you , maybe try there. Otherwise you could go to your local pc shop and telll them what you want and they will prob do it
