I have a DVD player with 5.1 output and I want to know what is the best (preferably cheapest) add-on kit to amplify the sound and give me good digital sound from 5 speakers + sub woofer. Most systems include a DVD player - however I already have one.
Help!

When it comes to home theater components, "best" and "cheapest" don't go together. It really depends on your budget and how much power you need. Amplifiers can range from a cheap $200 model to the higher-end $2000+ models. Then you have to buy the speakers and subwoofer too, which can get quite expensive.
If you simply want a good sound at a good price, and don't care much about brand, features, etc. then I suggest you look for old end-of-year liquidation models that are on sale. You could probably pick up some good components at a decent price.
And those "kits" you're referring to like the Sony DreamTheater are not any good. They offer little power and are only good if you intend to watch movies in a small room.
