when you hooked up the new hard drive you need to start comp with a bootdisk then fdisk and format the new hard drive ,have you done this?
as for the password it must be bios password.

hi m8 thanks for the reply but i cant even get to that part i had my boot floppy in but it reads cd-rom master cdr slave returns to next line then stops i pressed delete and thats what brought up bios password which i dont know.
i'm going to get a 'y' adapter 2morrow for the power supply so i cant get power to both hd's maybe that will help.

you could take the battery out and this would reset your bios, but on the other hand tomorrow isnt that far away ,get your splitter and go from there, but at some time or another your going to need access to your bios

ok heres what i'm getting when i restart
award plug and play bios extension v1.0a
copyright (c) 1998 award software,inc.
detecting ide primary slave...............none
detecting ide secondary master.......cdu5211
detecting ide secondary slave..........hewlett-packard cd-writer plus 9100
and thats as far as my pc goes unless i hit delete which opens bios with password.does this shed any light on things.
also how long do u leave the battery out for as i took it out for about 20 seconds put it back in and i'm still getting the same password promt.

As above, check your mobo manual for the CMOS jumpers. Turn the power off and short the correct jumpers (with the battery still in mobo) for afew seconds, replace the jumper where it was and power up.
This re-sets your settings in the BIOS so you will have to configure them again but will sort out your problem. Of course once you have access to this you will still need to partition & format your new HDD.
