Sorry for the probably dumb question, but everyone talks about crossover cable. Is it the same as cat-5? a quick search showed stores selling Cat-5e crossover cable, with a few saying they had special connectors to connect 2 NICS together.

Can i get an explanation, and will i need new cabling to hook my Xbox up to my comp. The Xbox has worked fine on the network before with Xbconnect.

Thanks a ton

you only need crossover cable for system link. You can convert straight cable to crossover by cutting it. cross the green and orange wires there are four of them. green white to orange white and green to orange. the rest of the wires stay the same.

CAT-5 cableing is the type of cable...

Crossover- connects, as you stated 2 NICS together to link.

Normal Cable- connects to a central hub/router which connects the systems.

i.e if you only had 2 computers with NICS you would just get a crossover for file sharing. Why buy a central hub? (Unless you need a router for BB sharing) Of course if you had 4 computers you would get a hub to connect them all together and use regular cableing. (Unless you need a router for BB sharing)...

for you instance.... a crossover would do just fine... :-D Hope that helps
