Done a search of this forum as I remember it was mentioned before but cant find it now. The auto insert notification is burried in XP Pro and I cant remember where to turn it off. Just done a re-install and I've gone blank as to how i did it in the past.

Cheers

Right click on each of your CD/DVD drive in "My Computer", select properties, AutoPlay, then de-select the AutoPlay options for each type of media.

that was the 1st thing I did after installing XP, what a pain it was having to wait each time I inserted a new disk in my drives.

To disable AIN in XP:

First you will need to open the Registry Editor.
To do this, click "Start" then click "Run" and type in "regedit" (without the quotes).

Next, go to the following registry items:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\
Services\Cdrom\

Next, look towards the right side of the registry screen for "AutoRun" or "AutoPlay". Double click on this text then in the "value data" field, enter a "0" to disable Auto Insert Notification.
