jcwacky Jul 12, 2002, 11:56 AM So how do I make the Xbox play VCDs straight off without having to put Xbox Media Player on every disc? I have tried copying Xbox Media Player to the Xbox HD and running it with EvoX but it just comes up with a green EvoX logo then goes back to the main EvoX menu. Please Help!
djlins Jul 12, 2002, 12:07 PM I think the way it is written so far your media HAS to be in the //Media/Video/ folder, so if you are running EvoX from your HDD then you must copy your media into the right directory on there as well..
Or wait until further versions??
Ninja Jul 12, 2002, 12:31 PM u cant, media player only plays divx or mpg, not vcd yet!
greenhead90 Jul 12, 2002, 06:33 PM vcd is mpg
greenhead90 Jul 12, 2002, 06:35 PM if u wanna play vcd off a cd w/o the xbmedia player on the disc use wxstream and put the disc in ur cd-rom drive in ur pc and have wxstream stream the video to the xbox from u pc drive!
Solosmooth Jul 13, 2002, 01:25 AM Just rename the movie file extension from .dat to .mpg
Then copy the file into the xbmedia player.
Then u can either burn it back into a cd or play em from your hardrive like me.

I just tried what you said, but I cannot get it to work. I have tried putting the videos in the xbplayer dir and in xbplayer/media/video but when I try to run it it just goes to the green evolutionX log then back to the main evolutionX menu. Why?
Solosmooth Jul 13, 2002, 10:59 PM Did u burn the xbplayer onto a dvd or is it stored in your hardrive?
If your loading from a cd, place the cd and turn off your xbox. Turn it back on and the player should load. Or maybe your missing some files.
If you have it stored in your hardrive make sure u edit the menu.ini file and add this command in the app section
Item "Movies","F:\xbplayer\default.xbe"
The program should load and you should be able to play your movies.
MoThreat Jul 14, 2002, 06:43 AM I don't know much about the Xbox Media Player... has anyone tried MPEG2 [SVCD] files?
Katz Jul 14, 2002, 07:42 AM sounds like hard **** to me! :(
cooltrade Jul 14, 2002, 08:20 PM I'm having the same problem, evox is on my harddrive in the e:\player\ dir and the media is in e:\player\media\. It goes to a green evox screen and then back to the menu. I'm using a Enigma final on a PAL system.
handyguy Jul 15, 2002, 12:07 PM If the xbox isnt make to read cdrs, why would it read vcds?
Im not gonna use cdrs/rws in my box from what I read it does to your system. Plus the cost of the remote. I just use an apex dvd player they are cheap like under $60 & play everything I can throw at them.

Like Div X? and MP3?
Theres a reason I want the XBox to be the main media player in our house and thats because you can get loads more onto a DVD. But Apex doesnt play it.
plus with the new media player coming out, it is merged bewteen the older two programs and will be robust. You will be able to use the triggers on the joypad to skip intelligently thru video / audio, I think it will be much more user friendly. Plus the fact that unless you have 5 grands worth of stereo equipmnent and speakers then I would say mp3 format is perfectly good enough for most home sound systems, which means you can get around 15 albums on one CD (It saves storage space)
anyhows, thats my two penyys worth as to why XBox has the potential.
handyguy Jul 16, 2002, 11:49 AM Mp3 on a APex? Sure! says so right on the front of the machine. As for the other format, I believe so, but haven't tried it. Both I can play on a PC with a cool lcd screen for nothing, so no need to put more work on the xbox laser.
Vladipusss Jul 16, 2002, 10:44 PM Apex doesn't support divx...which sucks because divx is like the most popular movie format............... :)
liambramall Jul 17, 2002, 05:57 PM if it did support dicx, evry1 would have them and they would cost more!
