I've just got a new stereo (a pioneer NS-F10). It's supposed to support cd text, but no text comes up on the screen. I've tried a few cd's i've burned myself using the cd text function in nero, still no luck. Guess my question is does the cd text function in nero work? and is there a website that lists all cd's that have cd text?

Yup, Nero CD Text works wonderfully. In fact I prefer using Nero for CD Text and Enhanced CD burning because it has the most options among the burnware. One silly question, did you check the box Write CD Text when burning?

Your burner must also support CD-text burning and to play it ont he PC you must use a media player that displays CD text. Download a cd-text player from here: http://www.vector.co.jp/soft/win95/art/se107122.html

If you own a Plextor drive you can use their player from here: http://www.plextor.be/english/technical/download2.html#utils

The HP 8200 does support burning CD-text. Check this link for more info: http://www.feurio.com/English/Writerdb/frame_list_cdtext.html

However, I am confused about why you are questioning whether the CDs have CD text. Why not try the original CD in the pioneer NS-F10. This will leave the writer and software and it's setting out of the equation. Then if the CD contains CD-text try copying it to test your burning setup. If you are not getting CD-Text displayed on any CDs you play in the NS-F10, download and install the CD-TXT player I posted, and play them on the PC using your HP drive (I believe all Sony CDs contain CD Text since they and Philips invented it)..

the thing is i'm not copying a cd. i'm making one out of mp3's. I've tried all my cd's (real ones) on the stereo (pioneer) none of them have text. That's what i was trying to ask, how come none of them have cd text? sorry if that was unclear.

Using your vector-software text appears in the player, but still nothing on my stereo. Any ideas? Something wrong with my stereo? I'm really confused

Check the Pioneer's manual to see if you've missed something or the thing needs to be exchanged.

Have you checked that the MP3s actually have CD Text on them??.
MP3 Workshop (http://www.mp3workshop.cjb.net) is a great freeware MP3 utility that amongst other things can be used to read and edit the Tags (CD Text).

Or in Nero right click on the MP3 file and select properties, there you can read and alter the CD Text/ Tags, although Nero only records the changes to the disc being burned and not the original file.

hth.

I didn't assume that you were copying CDs, but just wanted you to check the CDs in the stereo and the PC CD-Text player. This proves that some of your CDs have CD-text, that your drive reads CD-text at least and that there's a problem with your stereo displaying CD-text. Try copying one CD at least with CD-text on it, that way you'll know whether your burning setup is correct for burning CD-text.

the cd i burned shows cd text using the vector software, but not on the pioneer. Think i've found the problem; only the optional cd burner you can get with the stereo displays cd text. I missread the brochure i downloaded. stupid little me! thanks anyway for your all your help:)

Glad you sorted out what the problem was anyway. I suggest you continue to burn with CD-text, eventually you may have a player that displays it and at least you can display it on the PC.

Even if you don't use or don't have a CD player that supports CD Text, it's still better to burn CD Text for audio CD's to save you time in the future. Most of good CD label programs now will let you import CD Text info to make the covers and that's save you lots of time. Also, the track info (song's title, artist name...) are all on the CD and you won't lose them.
