Hi - I've just set up a new PC -
MIS 645E Max2 M'Board
Pentium4 2.0Ghz
256Mb 333DDR Ram
64Mb Geforce 4 Ti4200
I'm using the onboard sound - but it's crackling really bad in the left speaker (not the speaker, tried a few sets).
Any ideas>?
Cheers,
Cola

I believe the problem is the bad speaker jack.
Let's borrow this page (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F005%5F003%5F009%5F003&product%5Fid=274%2D252) to look at the picture of a mini 1/8" jack.
Turn off your PC and disconnect it from the wall outlet. Open the case. In the picture on the page I mention above, you'll see some metal "legs" on the other side of the jack. The posibility is these legs are loose and can't make good connection with the speaker plug so the sound on left channel is distorted. What you need to do is simply bend them in a little (don't use too much force or you will brake them). This will help the jack grap a better hold of the plug.
If the jack is mounted on a bracket and connected to the audio head on the mobo by a cable, make sure both ends of the cable are firmly plugged onto the connectors.

Cheers for the reply - I don't think it's that - because - it's only WAV sounds that seem to have this problem - MP3's are OK~?
I've checked I've got the newest drivers, etc - but still the same prob?>

You should have said so in 1st place. Do you have problem with wav on HD or audio CD tracks?

Sorry 'bout that - It's only Wav's on HD.
CD audio is OK - MP3's are ok.
The main reason it's annoying is 'cos loads of my games have he prob - 'cos their sound is Wav based.
Any suggestions much appreciated?

If you're NOT running WinXP, try updating to DirectX 8.1b (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/downloads/drx81.asp).

You said you had the latest driver. Did you get it from this page (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_list.php?part=1&kind=3&CHIP=3&ID=1)?
Have you tried this SiS Audio Driver (http://www.sis.com/support/driver/7012.htm)?

I have a motherboard that has onboard sound.
This board was notorious on another forum for crackling and popping sound.
A bios update was necessary to correct the problem.
