how can you listen to hidden cd tracks and how do you burn them?

Hidden or non-standard size audio tracks are usually used for copy protection, to abort the burn process. I don't think you will have much success listening to them since they most likely don't contain any real audio content. To burn them (or to successfully copy a CD containing them) try CloneCD.

Hidden tracks are not only used for copy protection, they're now used more and more on DVD's and audio CD's to "surprise" customers. A hidden track is actually placed on index 00 of track 01, while the 1st unhidden song starts at index 01. The gap between these 2 indices is called pregap that must be at least 2 secs per Red Book standard.

To make a hidden track, you must use a burnware that allows you to change the index times such as CDRWin (by editing the cue sheet). You need to combine the hidden song and the "Track 1" song to be track 1. Edit the cue sheet to set index 00 time to 0 and index 01 to the point right after this hidden track. When playing the CD that is burned this way, the player will start at index 01 (where the 1st unhidden track starts) and you will need to use the rewind button to go back in order to hear the hidden track.

Forgot to say, you may need to refer to CDRWin's manual and Help file for how to create & edit the cue sheet.
