Hi guys just bought a decent wide screen tv, and thinking of throwing out the vcr as well.

Does anyone have any opinions as to which is the best DVD recorder at the moment- i'm in the uk and currently the cheapest options are
£600 for the philips DVDR980
£700 for the philips DVDR 985
£670 for the philips DVDR1000
£670 for the panasonic dmr e-20
£990 for the pioneer dvr-7000

would ideally like a philips as the tv is philips but thats not really that much of a problem- does anyone on here know what the differences are between the DVDR980 and DVDR985 are?

p.s. not being that much of DVD-R/RW buff- has there been eveidence of one format emerging as a winner yet?

If you want DVD-R then you only have one choice: Pioneer A04.

Also if you check my forum you will see someone posted a place where you can get some DVD set-top recorders.
