I'm looking to get a new sound card because the drivers for my old card will not work for XP. I've checked to see if there were drivers for it, but the only thing that came close was for NT and those didnt work. Now im looking at new sound cards and checking the compatability. I dont need something spectacular, i just need something that works. I've seen a lot of cards under $20 that i'd be willing to buy, but their is no xp driver support, only 2000. So will a driver for 2000 work on xp?

Well, sometimes 2K drivers would work on XP but sometimes they don't. Make sure you can return it. :D

Most 2000 drivers wsork fine with XP. If they do not work like they should you can always try and run them in compatibility mode.
By the way... what brand of soundcard do you have? Unless you have a $5,- Taiwanese "Zaund Kart" :) it can't be that hard to find the proper drivers, is it? Try and sniff around a littlehere (http://www.driverguide.com) for drivers.

Its made by shuttle and i think the model is spacewalker, model: hot-247. I've searched everywhere for drivers and i even went to their website. I think they stopped developing drivers for it. I've tried windows update hoping that microsoft could provide drivers, but the dont.

most win 2000 drivers work
why not get a creative soundblaster sound as they are very cheap and work with all versions of windows and have great support website

Later versions of windows use WDM drivers which should ensure compatibility with all the supported versions.
These are 98SE, ME, 2000 and XP.
Bear in mind though that this is MS we are talking about so I would not use 9x drivers even though they theoretically should work.
2000 drivers most of the time work fine on XP.
