allright. i downloaded xbplayer-build4.rar and unzipped it. first let me ask if this is the correct version of xbplayer that people are using. i followed the readme file...i have microsoft .NET framework redistributible runtime installed on my computer, and found the installutil.exe file. i put the file into my xbplayer directory. i couldn't find xbstream.exe. where can i get this file? anyway, i downloaded wxstream. i set the config.xml file for xbplayer to my ip address. within the dos prompt, i got my computer to ping to my xbox, bringing up the hello xbox! line. from there i do not know what to do. i went ahead and experimented...buring the xbplayer files onto a cd-rw. the config.xml, default.xbe, font.xpr and interface.xpr files. i used recordnow max 4.1, changes the setting to DAO, udf 106 chars, with joilet, and 8+3 bridge. is it something i am doing in the burning process? or am i completely missing something? i'm not aiming to put evoX on my xbox, just more interested in wanting to stream movies to my xbox. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks a lot.

Firstly movies have to go into the media\Video directory to be picked up.. But aside from that, I would wait a little while (Media Player Beta 5 is out any day now with a lot more user friendly capabilities)

now wondering...is xbplayer-build4.rar the correct file in the first place? it's only like a 500k file. and why can't i get that even to boot up? even without putting movies into the media\video folder, shouldn't the menu boot up regardless? and with your response to xbplayer beta 5 bieng out in a few days...where do you download it at? at the home page? and lastly...xbplayer beta 4 is like a 500k file. just curious, why is beta 3 40mb's and the other beta files around 15mb's? i was going to download beta 3.1, but couldn't find a download link anywhere. thanks.

The betas you mention had movie files included, the matrix trailer for example, thats why they were so big, the drawback was that you could not add your own files with the early release (if i remember correctly!)

The file you have at 500k is the right one, you may be burning it wrong.

Check my guide here for how to burn no .iso format.

This will help you to burn anything not in an .iso

As above make sure you put your video in the correct directory, thats all you need to do and then follow the above guide

and when B5 comes out, you'll find it dont worry, It aint gonna be that hidden.
Incidentally, Runtime is running a competition for the front end graphics for it if anyone wants to enter, prizes include getting your front end used as the B5.2 release, and getting onto the team for beta testing of B6 and having your input.
All entries will be displayed on the usual XBH forums...

your post was very helpful...i'm about to try it in like 18 seconds. but a question...there is a way to stream movies from your pc to your xbox using xbplayer isn't there? and another question...what type of files does the xbplayer read? can i put for instance vcd's or svcd's into the media\video directory? thanks.

um...i just checked my xbplayer...i don't have a media\video directory?? it says in the readme to: unzip xbplayer onto your hard-disk, this will create a root directory with the xbplayer files. i unzipped xbplayer, and it did not creat a root directory. any ideas? thanks.

you make those other folders
your root directory is where you extracted the files to i believe

okay, here is my NEW problem. i just burned the xbplayer files...only the files, no movies. i used the correct settings. put it in my xbox and...presto, it's started to boot up! no more 'xbox can't recognize this disc' screen. BUT, don't get all excited yet...right after it brings up the booting screen, it drops right back to the 'xbox can't recognize' screen. *sigh* what the hell am i doing wrong? no i'm aiming at loading up xbplayer and streaming movies from my pc to xbox using xbplayer. i'm still having trouble booting up the player itself. any ideas? thanks.

wait for mediaplayer 5 (Its a merge of XBPlayer and XBoxMediaPlayer).. if not then try finding source with directory tree already done, because although the media/video directory stays empty, one of the other files needs to go into another directory as well, all your files dont sit on the root. I cant be ar$ed to find which file or which directory because the new media player will make this one redundant.

PS: For JBNinja, yes it will play VCD, SVCD, DVD, Div X 3 and 4 (Not 5 yet I think unless they put it in last minute) mp3, CD WAV, there are more codecs going in all the time.

JBNinja99 i will mail you the version i am currently using, when extracted the files are all in the right place, all you have to do it put your video file in the media directory then use my tutorial to burn. Happy days.

Leave your e.mail here or send it to me in a PM and I will send you the file.

peace

Veteran 321: Not the one these lot are on about, it cant handle the CD tray openning yet, it resets the XBox so you either have to burn the player onto the same CD/DVD as your media, or use EvoX to run the player from the harddrive, and if you cant sort media player out I dont advise messing with EvoX yet..

Player version B5 will allow CD swapping. (Checking the site hourly to see when it is being released heheheh)

okay...just to let everyone know who contributed to helping me with my problem...i finally got it to work. i messed around with evoX and got xbplayer to run straight off my hd. i don't know why i couldn't get it to stream directly to my xbox without evoX. but for those of you who haven't tried evoX yet, and are having trouble with things such as xbplayer, i thouroughly suggest getting a hold evoX. thanks guys.
