sllewtb Jul 24, 2002, 07:59 PM Okay I just got my xbox from precisionmods and they already informed me my laser is picky.
I know it does NOT read Princo and Merit something or another dvd-r's
anyhow i have some compusa brand cd-rw's
80 minutes with gold top
what i am curious to know is this normal. Half the time the games boot up and work fine and other half i get that generic message saying cd is dirty, or may be scratched something or another, basically cant read CD
is it normal if my xbox is not compatible with this type of media to work during 1 boot and then next boot up not work?
Or is this what I should expect with my xbox being modded?
thanks in advance
peoplesclub Jul 24, 2002, 09:02 PM try some better Dvdr media like (apple)Verb)Tdk)even neos and fws 2nd gen......... as for cdrws its total miss n hit with them. u just gotta find a dvdr your xbox likes and stick to em...
littlelooch Jul 24, 2002, 09:06 PM yeah Ive only used cd-rws so far and it boots Id say 50-75% of the time
wish that was better, but it is ok
happydirk Jul 24, 2002, 09:15 PM Hey bud.... I have had the same problem with those exact media.....Memorex cdrw worked okay for me ... but I can't stress enough... get a pc dvdrom and install it...... it fixed many bugs in games and made the load times much faster... also no wear and tear on your original laser in the xbox!!

would it be possible to install a laptop dvd rom? isn't it the same size as the xbox rom? this way you don't have to have the dvd rom sitting on the side or on top the xbox. just a thought.

I imagine you could wing something like that.... but my dvdrom just sits nicely on top of my xbox with the casing closed and everything...... try it out... I'm sure it wouldn't hurt!!
littlelooch Jul 24, 2002, 09:53 PM Yeah I should put in a dvd-rom, but Im not messing with my xbox anymore then I have to heh.
I will only use cd-rws once in a while and I doubt it will ruin the xbox lens anytime soon.....
I plan on buying many games in dvd anyways.
Hasardman Jul 25, 2002, 03:23 PM I noticed that with the cheap DVD-Rs that the guy I order from I tend to have problem when the system is warm. By this I mean If I have been playing a game for a while and I try to switch to another game, sometimes I get the dirty lens message, however other times it works fine.
Once in a while I will press the power button, not the reset button and play the game that is already in the drive and I will get the dirty disk message, all I have to do is press eject, and then press it a again and it will load up with no problems.
The games I have on verbatim media work perfectly everytime, it is only the games on the cheap white topped disks that I sometimes have problems with.
sllewtb Jul 25, 2002, 03:37 PM I just got some Hi-Val cdrw's and of course memorex
anyone have experience with the HI-Val ones
are they considered lower end(cheap ones)
thanks in advance
what about the imations cd-rw's or tdk, are those okay for xbox as well
I guess what is best is to keep trying to find out what xbox likes best
shorty_jnr Jul 25, 2002, 05:28 PM I have been very successful on cdrw`s & cdr`s
PC Line & Traxdata cdrw`s work great
Vivastar cdr`s work great also
handyguy Jul 25, 2002, 07:05 PM Format cdrws before use.
oktm Jul 26, 2002, 11:06 PM Why should you format cdrws
sllewtb Jul 27, 2002, 12:17 AM would this be the same as clicking on the erase icon in clone cd
full erase, not quick
or do i need to actually go into windows and choose that drive and say format?
thanks in advance
