Ok, i have a 40X CD writer, and a 32x Cdrom/dvdrom drive.
My questoin is, if i "copy on the fly" - will the CDRs get written at a top speed of 32x because its reading at that speed?
Or does it actually write at 40x using clever buffer techniques or something?
Does it only write at 40x when writing stuff from the hard drive?
Thanks

i think to be able to write at 40x the cdrom/dvd will have to read as quick or faster, what does the cdrom read audio at though? is it just 32x reading of data.

When writing at 40x the average speed is only around 31x. What is important is what speed your read starts reading at and how quickly it can reach max reading speed.
When writing at 40x the writer starts at 18-20x and then reaches 40x at some point, I doubt that your reader could keep up.

oops!
I just realised my cd-rom/dvdrom is actually 48x:D
Thanks for the responses though, very interesting none the less.

I wouldnt take much notice of what it says, if you have nero do a test with nero cd speed, and if it matches or betters the figures given by celtic you should be ok at 40x. If you select 40x and your reader cant keep up, you will get buffer underruns and it will be slower than writing at 32x without buffer under runs
