Hello Everyone,

I was burning CD with Nero using Plextor writer after CD burned successfully, I couldn't eject the CD. So I manually eject the CD. Now bios and windows 2k pro does not recognize burner at all. If I leave controller on windows doesn't boot up. Eventhough the burner light is on but I couldn't open its tray by using its eject button. Is this burner toast now. Any idea. Thanks

Power off the PC and unplug the power cable to the burner. Reboot the PC and check the device manger (Start -> settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager) , if the burner is still showing in your CDROM device list right click on it & select remove. power down the PC & reconnect the power cable to the burner.

That should clear any outstanding hardware errors recorded by the O/S.

If it still fails to work then it sounds like a hardware failure.

Window still not able to find CD drive and I removed all the cables and put it back reconnect same wires and different set of wires same result. I also noticed if IDE cable connected to Plexter drive then my Hard Drive light (LED) remains on and when I removed the IDE cable then HD light turns off. In other words HD keeps working until IDE connector is connected to drive. Is this give you some hint. If this is hardware failure, which drive would you recommend. Thanks

It does sound like a hardware problem, you could contact Plextor as they have great after sales service although the repair costs may not be worth it. If you are going to replace the drive I would recommend you go with another Plextor. The 401240 is imho the best available, copies sd2 protected discs plus has all the standard plector features.

I've had my trusty Plextor 121032 for over 3 years and it's never hickuped once. If it ever gives up the ghost I'll be looking for another Plexy to replace it.
