CD Reader-->Hard Disk(used as Buffer)-->CD Writer
I can't seem to burn faster than 8x on-the-fly and I think it has something to do with the communication of the devices via the above route.

Never mind, I just found out why I can't burn more than at 8x. It is because of the type of data on the CD. It's a VCD made using Nero DAO. It seems that my CD readers cannot read it faster than 8x, I probably have to get another CD Writer as a reader. I tested it with CDSpeed. The CD readers read normal Data CD-ROM fast though, only VCDs then they are very slow. It's the format of the data that's preventing it from reading more than 8x. Does anyone know a CD/DVD Drive that can burn/read VCDs made by Nero fast on-the-fly? The format of VCD is different from normal data cd because the CD/DVD drives shows the contents having a couple of MB in size where actually it is a few hundred MD in size. I think the drives are can only read the 1st session of the VCD as data and the contents as something else.

VCD's use a mode 2 data tracks for the mpegs... Some drives read mode2 data much slower than mode1, this could be your problem.

I see. So is there a CD/DVD Drive that can read Mode 2 Data fast? I'm sure there are since there are fast DAE drives.

I think the solution is the LTD-163/165. ^_^

It may make no difference but on some systems having the two drives on the samde IDE channel will lead to problems when copying on the fly. In such a case the two drives should be kept on different channels.

On some systems, having the drives on the same channel can cause bottleneck effects, this is only on older low end systems though.
