AMDcriminal Jul 28, 2002, 06:25 PM Hey guys,
Sometimes my new computer freeze. I know it could be the memory's fault but could it be the cdrom's? could the cdrom freeze the computer?
Thanks
wilt Jul 28, 2002, 06:46 PM It does on mine.
If i have a disc that's scratched or unreadable, it'll freeze the computer.
But this only happens straight after i put one in.
AMDcriminal Jul 29, 2002, 10:57 AM My CDs are not that scratched. The computer freeze in every game i play. So thats mean its the memory. But is it normal that the CD is too hot when i take it from the CDROM?
My cdrom is a 52X LG I dont know if this could help.
fishfood Jul 29, 2002, 02:18 PM I built up a pc for someone with a 52x cdrom drive a while back and found it hated one type of cdr 24x datasafe media and would either crash the system or could not be able to copy across files when it got up to speed. They where ok in an other cdrom drive.
Virgin San Jul 29, 2002, 02:29 PM If its crashing in game I'd put money on it being your graphics card / graphics drivers - you can check out your card performance with something like 3DMark and see if it survives that, also you might think about downloading the latest driver for your card (if you havent already).
Though now i look at your specs looks like a decent card - what OS?
GodfatherUK Jul 29, 2002, 03:02 PM its memory or the graphics card m8 as games are very memory intensive
buy quality memory
AMDcriminal Jul 29, 2002, 11:52 PM My OS is Win98
How can I download the latest driver of my video card?
The memory is : 256MB DDR 333
Video card is: GeForce 4 Ti4200
Are those 2 compatible with each other?
AMDcriminal Jul 30, 2002, 12:30 PM Anyone?
gooner Jul 30, 2002, 01:45 PM Try www.Nividia.com
AMDcriminal Aug 03, 2002, 04:14 PM Thx for the site but didn't find anythning :(
A friend of my brother told me that it could be the windows. My windows is 98. He told me that if i change it to 2000 or XP , the problem could be fixed. I think hes right. but will games work with XP ? Like: Medal Of honor, No One lives forever and Counter strike?
jimfitz2128 Aug 03, 2002, 10:09 PM Do a google search for your video card. You will come up with a site where you can download the newest drivers.
MrBean2002 Aug 04, 2002, 05:01 AM Try the real NVidia page because gooner has put an extra I in it, the page is
http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=windows9x
that has the latest drivers for Win 98/Me, i think they work on all of NVidia's grpahics cards.
BattlefieldNinja Aug 05, 2002, 07:21 AM Your games will work in XP, but freezing is not always the O/S...
