What the frill PS2 version did my friend buy? The back says SCPH-39001 serial number is U4xxxxxx, it is a USA model, it has 8 screws on the bottom of the case. What mod works? USB? Gap no-GAP? Any help out there? I have looked?

PS2 39001 is the new version 7 USA PS2. You need Apple Chip or Blue Messiah for that. Make sure you buy the one for your PS2 39001 model.

But a Blue Messiah is so much better in a V7. DVD9 Japanese games boot, originals, imports, CDR, DVDR, PSx all. It's really a good chip in the V7s. It's so good, I am considering replacing my Messiah machine with a Blue V7.

DVD9 is not something very special for blue chip. The Apple Chip also do that for the 39001.
