I am upgrading my computer and it has a voodo 2 graphics card. I never play games but do watch the odd dvd now and again. Is it worth getting a better card or not. Are these new cards just designed to handle modern games or do they do other things.

Newer cards has faster graphics engine, so they will render the graphics a lot butter, but in your case, you should also look for one with hardware DVD-decoding, this will help your DVD movies play smoother as all the hard work are mostly done by the cards on-board MPEG decoding chipset, rather than using your CPU to work.
I am moving this to the consumers forum, so you could disguss with the others to what best to buy ....

If you’re not bothered about games I’d get a separate decoder card for your DVD. This looks excellent (http://www.sigmadesigns.com/products/xcard.htm) I’ve got the earlier version and the DVD playback is great on a Monitor and TV (only uses ~10% of CPU power). It comes with a remote and supports DIVX.
