Rizel Jul 31, 2002, 05:35 PM I have the the Lite-On 40125W, but i'am getting very low read speeds, can i update the Firmware to the 40125S modle to see if this helps or is this not possible? Cheers, Rizel zymo Jul 31, 2002, 07:12 PM According to liteon, updating the firmware improves compatibility and performance but the condition of your computer can also affect the speed of the writer. I found out myself that a messy hard drive is a major factor. Check you have dma enabled too. Updating firmware will not harm it so you have nothing to loose by doing it. But the update will not change the model number, just the firmware. Go into device manager to see what version you have and then check to see what updates are available. Rizel Jul 31, 2002, 08:38 PM Cheers for the reply. I'am using the latest Firewire for my modle Lite-On 40125W (R40WS05) and there no new updates, but for the 40125S Modle there is 3 new updates. What i'd like to do is update the Firewire on my Drive to the latest version for the 40125S Modle (R40ZS0K) but is this possible as i don'nt want to ruin my drive. Why did Lite-On make life so difficult! Cheers, Rizel MrMP Jul 31, 2002, 10:06 PM I have an 's' and a 'w', and they both perform exactly the same, so dont think changing firmware would make much difference. As zymo says most likeley your system needs a bit of fine tuning. PS the only difference i can find between the 2 is the mount rainier support on the 's' trinity_hayes Aug 01, 2002, 02:51 AM This thread has a lot of info about the Liteons and somewhere in here is another thread about them being overclocked to 48, I haven't tried that one, yet. :) http://forum.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?threadid=42344 Rizel Aug 01, 2002, 07:55 AM Cheers for all the replies and help. I'am using the Lite-On to burn images and read images to seperate Hard Drives (both 7200 RPM 60 & 40GB IBMS), all on different IDE channels so i don'nt think its my system (Although i'am using XP :()as i also replaced my 24x Speed drive which had excellent read speeds where as this 40x is very slow. Thanks again, Rizel |
