My husband was playing a game in the cdrom and the computer froze. He restarted the computer, but from that time on we can not us our cdrom. We have a Packard Bell and are running Win 95. The cdrom is not even available in My Computer. If you put in a cdrom the light goes on like it is reading it, but nothing happens. If I click on our cd play is says that no cdrom is installed. Our master is on cdrom and we can not use it. Help Please. Can I download something? It is a Matsushita CR-581 4X CD Rom.

The simplest way to free up a 'locked' CDROM is to uninstall it. However as you are running Win95a the re-install process is manual.

So click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> system -> device manager
Find your CDROM in the device list, right click on it and select 'Remove'
Reboot the PC.
Click on Start -> setting -> control Panel and select 'Add new Hardware'
Follow the prompts and select CDROM as the Hardware being installed.

That should fix the problem.
