just came back from asda and saw them stocking the shelves with apex ad1100w dvd players for 75 quid made in usa on the box looks like the ones sold in the states at walmart not sure if they paly vcd as newer ones might not reading the reviews on vcdhelp

the apex plays every thing exept regular vcd's
they need mod'ing with a jpeg to get them to work

i have 1 and i am sure it doesnt play mp3 dvdrs i get disc read error, also mine wont play 2 movies austin powers 3 and miniroty report i press play from the dvd menu then it just freezes, but miniroty report works in my xbox so it should work on this dvd player

The apex will play those 2 movies when the vcd upgrade is out as if you have the same version I have the Apex thinks they are VCD...

I found a way of playing vcds on the apex machine.

I encoded a film into 2 mpg files , and used nero burner.

I then compiled a data cd , and dragged 1 jpg pic , then the mpg file.

bingo , it plays the pic 1st , then lets you watch the mpg file.

the quality is excellent , but i suppose you still cant beat it playing the proper vcd`s.

try it though , it works 100%

Great little player got one for the kids,noisy draw and wont play vcds yet but asda are going to give out free firmware soon,plays dvd-r on any media ive put its way and svds
just reencode your vcds using tmpgeng and burn not bad for 69 quid

richersounds got an accoustic solutions 69.95 plays everything, multi & macro hack!

the 1100wb does play vcd`s but you need to copy the original vcd with nero into an iso cd open nero select iso drag all the files across then burn them to cd making sure you finalize the cd once you are finished put cd into your player it will show the root directory open up the root and it will open all the other directories on the right hand side of the screen press the number on your remote corresponding with mpegav which is number 4 then number 1 vcd when you press that one your vcd will play this is a bit of pissing about but it will do until the vcd hack comes out
