in my v3 ps2 some movies that i have converted from svcd seem to jerk but in my friends v5 R ps2 u hear sound but no picture i have tryed about 7 movies and all blank screens but what is funny i converted austin powers 3 svcd to dvd and it plays ok on the v5 ps2 and i did everthing that i always do, so whats the problem is to do with bitrate.

I had the same problem but i never found out what caused it. Since then ive found a way to put svcds on dvdr and get it to work in a ps2 fine. This is what i do:

Extract the mpgs from the svcd using isobuster or vcdgear
demux them in tmpg
reencode the video in tmpg (i can send you the template for it if you want)
reencode the audio to 48000hz in besweet (i used the doom9 guide for it)
rename the audio file to .mpa
author in spruceup

yes send it grief and i wonder, when i converted austin powers 3 i used vcdgear to convert bin & cue to mpeg now i wonder is that somthing to do with why it worked

Could be actually cos ive only recently started using that to rip vcds to the hdd and before i couldnt get mine to play in the ps2. i always assumed it was an error when i reencoded the video in tmpg

i believe different versions of ps2 have different lasers and like certain dvdrs-for instance my v3 dosnt like datasafe gen3 but many others swear by it-so mayb media mite b having an impact here????regards,gsand.

i don't know if this will be any help but when i added solder to one of the chips to alow the ps2 to play ntsc in colour it seems to have affected the strength of the laser or something -- before hand the ps2 played 99% of the dvdr that i inserted regardless of media -- now it even seem to skip when i use datasafe ... who knows

the ps2 is unchipped, well it was until today am just going to use my capture card from now on and capture divx and convert to mpeg cos it plays vcds converted to dvd just not svcd
