I tried burning some 90 min CDs with my Yamaha CRW2100EZ. I burnt about 10 of them just fine, and then my CD-RW just stopped working. It wouldn't recognize any empty media or data CDs that were put in the tray. Is there any way to fix this? I assume that the laser probably went out of alignment, but I don't know how to realign it, or if it's possible.

Hi johnDoe

I do not really want to worry you, but before buying my new drive a week ago, the Yamaha DRW3200E-VX I spent a few days reading reposts and revioes about it to make sure it would work in my PC as I have had some problems in the past. I know that mine will overburn to 93:53 minutes but I red on one of those many pages that trying this can possibly damage the drive permanently!

I have tried it though and have written a disk of 91 minutes on a CD-R 90min disc, but I hope that I do not have to do it too many times as I do not want to damage the drive.

Nero 5.5, when I tried to overburn, gave me a warning saying that this could damage the drive as well so although I do not know if this is what has happened to yours it may be worth considering the possibility of permanent damage.

If it is under quarantee it may be repairable under it, otherwise I have never heard of a re-alignment being corrected with software, perhaps a firmware upgrade to your drive might help - here:
