When I burn at anything over 16x you can see distinct changes in colour on the writing surface. I presume the different colours are made when the writer picks up speed during the burning process. This only started a couple of days ago and the disks will still read without problem on other CD drives. If I Keep the writing speed at 16x or below I get an even burn.

Does anyone know if this will cause problems? Is it time to replace this drive?

Did you change your brand of discs?

Just do scan discs on them if they're ok nada to worry about, my 32x did that to every disc I burnt. My 40x doesnt because of they way that they write is different.

See why the 24x / 32x and any Zone CLV drive does here with some scans:

Not changed my brand of disk. Maybe I should have changed to a black writing surface then my fears would be gone.

I have checked the disks as you suggested and there are no error reports so it looks like I was worried about nothing.

Thanks for the link mate, interesting.
