Whats the Max bit rate for a DVD? cos I keep getting an error saying the bit rate is too high in spruce up DVD when I try to load my M2V file. Thanks for any replies.

What I mean by "Home made" in the title is, Im trying to put my home made camcorder movies onto DVD.

Ok m8,coulda done with your bitrate settings.
Anyway, with a cam I would use the following settings
min 1800
max 2400
av 2200

The max((which can not be used anyway for the bitrate errors which occur in many progs)is designed for real dvd files, even then 8000 is the accepted max.
Try the settings I 've mentioned and see how they work for you it may even be worth lowering them slightly.
hope that helps.

DVD specs say that the max should be 9.8 mbits / sec.
I made my own from my DV cam and encoded it at 8 mbits/sec and it was perfect quality and encoded & played fine (using DVD maestro)
don't use too low bitrate if your cam is a digital one, 1800 should really be used if it is a VHS copy, go a lot higher if ur getting it digitally straight from cam

I think Ive solved my problem but I could be wrong, heres what Ive been doing.

I make an avi file straight from camcorder using MGI Videowave III then Ive been loading that avi file into BB AVI2MPG2 everything is fine so far, then I try to load the M2V file into spruce up and says the bitrate is too high.

now instead of loading it straight into spruceup Ive just put the M2V file into ReMPEG2 to reMPEG the file before loading it into spruceup. I just hope this will work.

Ive got a question if someone can answer it, when I do a copy of an original DVD using the newbie guide at the top of the main forum page, I get to the part where I need to download Virtual machine but get re-directed to a message saying virtual machin isnt supported for winXP anymore, Is there anything else I can use instead of this? Thanx
