Just read this in the terms and conditions of v21 ADSL package:

A standard power supply so that the new ADSL terminating equipment can be powered (not required for V21 USB Modem) (If you loose power your service will drop).

The connection to your computer equipment - either by an RJ45 standard LAN (Local Area Network), or an active USB port of a PC (note that some older PCs have USB ports but they are not active).

Also note that these need to be reasonably close together. The power supply should be within 3ft of the phone socket and the connecting LAN socket or USB port should be within 3ft. If they aren't the service will not be installed.

Does this mean my PC has to be within 3 feet of the phone socket? I don't understand the line "these need to reasnoably close together", what do?

Can anybody make sense out of the above?

all I think it means is that you have to be near a phone socket and a power supply, It's just telling you that it only comes with a 3M extension.

But I could be wrong

The cables can be as long as you want. I think it's just saying that if you want it longer, you'll have to do/pay for it yourself.

I see, just didn't like the last sentance saying 'it wont be installed'. Also why does the power supply need to be within 3ft of the phone socket?

if you can't get power to your modem it'll not work, that's why they need to be near a power supply or extension.

All there saying is they will provide the kit to go up to 3 m away from the socket after that you have to buy the extensions etc, your self

If your using the USB type you dont need a power supply as it runs of the USB port.

Or at least my one does, i'm using the Fujitsu DX310.

I'm going for a PCI modem as they don't use any CPU power like USB ones do.

Thanx for all your help.
