dckicks Aug 07, 2002, 12:09 PM hi ive down loaded a knew film and the format is AVI but when i play it ,it just plays the sound and not the picture ,could you please help ,thanks dankicks007@hotmail.com celtic_druid Aug 07, 2002, 12:12 PM You need to install what ever video codec it uses, most likely DivX, however you can check the FourCC code to find out for sure. jspr57 Aug 07, 2002, 12:16 PM To play avi files on your pc you will need to update the codecs you can get them from http://www.divx.com/divx/ or http://www.vcdhelp.com/ vcdhelp will be the best place as they have help files and links to all the sites where you can get the codecs from Regards dckicks Aug 07, 2002, 12:34 PM ive allready got divx and it doesnt work on that one dckicks Aug 07, 2002, 12:55 PM what are codecs celtic_druid Aug 08, 2002, 06:19 AM If it is not DivX then it is probably XviD. Download this: http://members.optushome.com.au/spamcatcher/gspot11.zip It will tell you what codec it uses and whether it is installed. A codec is what particular compression scheme is uses to compress in this case the video stream of the file. dckicks Aug 08, 2002, 10:51 AM ive down loaded what you said opened it and put the file in and theres loads of stuff come up is there somwthing i should be looking for celtic_druid Aug 08, 2002, 11:26 AM As I said, the video codec (if it is unknown then the FourCC code) and whether it is installed. If it is not installed, then install it. It will also tell you if the file is complete. dckicks Aug 08, 2002, 02:30 PM the codec box says ............S-Mpeg 4 version 3.................. the four cc box says..........mp43................... and the vendor says...............microsoft........ celtic_druid Aug 09, 2002, 03:23 AM So it uses Microsoft MPEG4 v3. I would have thought that wmp would automatically download a codec for that.. This one should do the job anyway: http://www.divx-digest.com/software/mpeg4codec.html |
