hi ive down loaded a knew film and the format is AVI but when i play it ,it just plays the sound and not the picture ,could you please help ,thanks

You need to install what ever video codec it uses, most likely DivX, however you can check the FourCC code to find out for sure.

To play avi files on your pc you will need to update the codecs you can get them from http://www.divx.com/divx/ or http://www.vcdhelp.com/

vcdhelp will be the best place as they have help files and links to all the sites where you can get the codecs from

ive allready got divx and it doesnt work on that one

If it is not DivX then it is probably XviD.

It will tell you what codec it uses and whether it is installed.

A codec is what particular compression scheme is uses to compress in this case the video stream of the file.

As I said, the video codec (if it is unknown then the FourCC code) and whether it is installed. If it is not installed, then install it.

It will also tell you if the file is complete.

the codec box says ............S-Mpeg 4 version 3..................
the four cc box says..........mp43...................
and the vendor says...............microsoft........

So it uses Microsoft MPEG4 v3. I would have thought that wmp would automatically download a codec for that..
