i have a network card on my pc and want to connect it to my xbox for xbconnect - is a cross-over cable all i need?

I think (not sure) that is all you need. But make sure you get the crossover cable.

Yes its a crossover cable you need, Not a patch cable as they are different.
Patch cable is ok if you are running it through a hub,but if you are connecting the xbox straight to the pc you need a crossover cable for it to work.
