does the knife swap only work on certain versions?

i've tried it on my ps2 with the AR2...and it isnt working

i slide the lock over to the right...swap the disks...then slide it back... clikc on "start game without codes" and nothing happens...just locks up.

what am I doing wrong.

Not all back up's work the the knife trick. The TOC has to be smaller then the AR2/GS2.
