Here's one for the 'old timers' :D .
I'm trying to tart up an old P133. The Motherboard is an ABIT AB-SM5 which supports EDO and SDRAM.
The existing setup is 2 sticks of 16meg EDO ram. When I take that 32Meg of RAM out and instal a 64meg stick of PC133 the motherboard only reports 16meg of SDRAM installed.
Due to the board's age I can't find much about it on the net other than the BIOS autodetects SDRAM and sets it up. The Bios reports 1 stick of SDRAM at slot 3 , it won't let me make any changes or cause a rescan etc.

I'm thinking maybe it's because the board only recognises 16meg per memory slot.

So anyone with a long memory if you could help me out with a way of getting the mobo to recognise larger memory sticks.
TIA

this may help a little

http://www.sysopt.com/mreview/ab-sm5.html

The board may be specific to pc100 sdram....it will id 128 mb under normal circumstances.

Depending on the specs of the MB the maximum size per stick might only be 32mb, it might only like sticks in pairs, it might only like pc100 sticks etc. etc. the list goes on! I think you just need to test it with different combinations.

Thanks for the replies. I scrounged some EDO sims which has bumped the memory up to 64Meg. Cheers for the link, I'll try emailing their tech support - well that should be good for a laugh.

Sure it would be easier to just replace the mobo but where would the fun be in that?.
