i want to be able to play vcds, svcds etc and ideally pay no more than £80 - £90.
The acoustic solutions 421/451 are out of stock at my nearest richer sounds shop.I brought a alba 108 from argos but found it a pain to keep manually using the hack to get vcds to play.I took it back and got a refund.
So does anyone know where i can buy a suitable dvd player this weekend ?

i would pay a bit more and get a aiwa or the bad boy tosh sd220e ($hit hot ) trust me , the cybers quality isnt all that and the acoustics solution is weak also , unless you aint got money to play with !! then i understand , but the tosh is wot i ahve and it turns an averagely recorded vcd or svcd into something special :)

I have to warn you against APEX. It plays everything, and it does some nice things. But i've taken the one I had back 3 times, finally, I got a JVC

dansai now £60 at tesco, plays dvdr, mp3 with onscreen track selection including file names (does not play multi-session though), cdr, cdrw.

NOT vcd, but apparently u can get a firmware upgrade cd for nothing from their help-line

region hack here:

Just got a Dansai 1010 from Tescos in Bidston Birkenhead for £60. Offer started yesterday and runs for about 2 weeks.

Doesn't play VCDs out of the box but the firmware upgrade took 20 seconds and now it plays everything I've tried.

At this price it has to be a bargain..
