Can anyone suggest a decent network card for home use- just had cable modem installed- but want to hook up two computers to it- the engineer who installed the modem installed a d-link ethernet card for the one downstairs but i need to install the other one in my pc- just want to know which one to get or are they all pretty similar?

Other than an additional network card and a network hub is there anything else i'm going to need- is it possible to get network hubs for 2/3 computer networks- if so where's the best place to get them?

Network cards are for the most part the same. I install network cards for people at my school and have installed many many different brands. Basically I would go for whatever you can get the cheapest. If you look around at CompUSA or staples or somethin they usually have them for about 15 bucks with a 10 dollar instant or mail in rebate. I have a stock pile of Dlinks right now that I got for 5 bucks that I will install for people when I get back to school.
