Has anyone bought, used, seen, etc. the Nextbase DVD Player?

http://www.merconnet.com/dvdplayers/nextbase.html

Does it do what it says it does (ie compatible with all the different formats)?

What is the picture quality like?

What is the sound quality like (2-channel/5.1-channel analog audio?) Is it 2 channel or is it 5.1 channel, could someone please explain?

Does it have a quality feel?

How does it compare to the likes of Acoustic Solutions 421/451?

I have contacted the manufacturer/dealer but have had no reply as yet.

Any further comments would be appreciated as I am thinking about buying one.

Thanks in advance!

Right I had one but sold it.
Played all different things but none of them well. I did like the fact you can drop loads of photo's on a cd and it will allow you to view them. I dont mean Kodak photo disc I mean just loads burned mode 2 inside different folders off my HD. It's 2 chan out which is adequate it also can do DTS with external decoder as it has optical out. Nice feature it has PAL/NTSC selector direct on remote rather than on a menu.
These are + points. - points are it uses a really fussy method to browse MP3 and photo. Picture and build quality is poor. It's very fussy with DVD-R (CD-R seemed fine). Would not read White Label gen 3 properly skippy as hell (by no means a bad brand though also not the best) neither would it read Princo Bulk Paq (understandably) also any DVD-R with printed label skipped like hell. This I feel, was on account of the motor powering the spindle struggling to spin up?? Might be that the extra bit of weight pushed it over the edge. It was not on account of the labels being poorly applied (balanced) as I use the labelle applicator with self centring mechanism.
In summary reasonable but not great.

Incidentally I also had an acoustic solutions which was also cr@p. Sent it right back within 4 hours.

Your best bet would be to get a dansai 1010 and the firmware update CD. Rock solid little performers and notably un-fussy with any media. I personally know of 10 people with them that are over the moon.

I have a few players in the house but my favourite is my Manhattan SL1. Slim sexy plays everything Got it brand new delivered for about £106 from e-bay. A real bargain.

I have a nextbase and I have to say I have not encountered any of the problems danman has mentioned all media has played no trouble including bulkpaq etc I can understand what he's saying about the mp3/photo viewer but once you get used to it you'll have no poblems I also think it looks great. There is no real weight to it but to me that's a plus. The only thing I have to say about the player is I havn't been able to find a method of removing the macrovision so I think I may have to resign myself into buying a macro disabling box [no big deal].

I would definately recommed this player to anyone. The one point I would like to make is that I bought mine fairly recently and any problems danman may have had may have been addressed and rectified. [don't know when he bought his].

good luck with whatever you decide to buy mate

all the best

Honestly I am a fussy b45t4rd and I have had 4 DVD players and returned em all.
Started with accoustic solutions for 69.95 from rs v.good slimline m.reg & macro picture 7/10, bit cheapish looking. Returned it for limit Davs 400 149.95! Bargain home cinema - only prob no VCD & DVD multi freezing. Swapped for another - even worse no DVD playback !!!!
Then had cyberhome 528 & videologic speakers - picture 7/10, sound 9/10 - 5.1 in all its glory. BIG problem no remote 4 audio so get up and change volume manually PAIN in the backside !
Finally ...
Philips Q40 from www.hifibitz.co.uk 139.99 delivered plays everything and how it plays - Beautiful picture and sound, colours are amazing and so much customisation available including indivudual decibel levels for each speaker & sub !!
Reoc HT60 5.1 speaker package with credit card size remote 59.99 from safeway (drove 50 miles to pick up the last one they had) and I have to tell you I am chuffed to bits. Individual volume controls on the remote for sub/front/surround, master volume, default & mute.
Under 200 pounds for the nicest looking, best sounding, killer picture & multi-region, all playing system. If u can get the same as I did you will be laughing all the way to the ( u know what I mean!).
