I have looked throiugh the forum for ideas on a DVD player that will play multiregion, VCD, S-VCD, MP3s,etc and have a few in mind.

But one question I need answered is which ones also have macrovision disabled so I can tape off them ?

The only one I can definately see is Acoustic Sounds 421 has a remote hack that disables macrovision as well as the region lock. But they must be more.

Any help any one

Ok the dansai 1010 from tesco plays everything with the firmware upgrade but does not disable macrovision.
However the only time you need macro disabled is iff you are copying off an original as copies don't have it anyway

I've read a lot about firmware disks and firmware upgrades.

A silly question.....what is it ?

Is it a disk you put in the DVD player and if so how do you get a hold of one.

Sorry for being so thick

if you find a player you really like and the only thing that is holding you back is that you can't disable the macro, don't worry as you can buy individual macro disabling boxes. you simply connect to the small box then into your vcr or vdr whichever you are using and away you go.

these boxes vary in price but you shouldn't pay any more than a maximum of £30 if you check out ebay etc you can pick them up a lot cheaper.

good luck

The Yello DVD900 comes region free and you can disable the macrovision with a simple remote hack. Got mine from amazon.

As "sparkymarky" said the Dansai 1010 from tesco's is a top budget player for £85, but there is a remote hack that disables the macrovision and makes it multi-regional.

As for the firmware disk you can obtain one of these if you phone the tesco's helpline or download it and burn it yourself.

Hope this helps mate

need the disk first off tesco before you can disable macro as it is not in the menu when you first get it
