I'm new to all of this and I am after a bit of advice on CD-R's.
I wouldn't know a good type of CD-R if it jumped up and bit me on the a**!
Could someone please tell me what are the best type to get (speed,MB etc) I've been told to avoid the silver and go for white media.
What's a good/bad price?
And most important - Where online can I get my hands on them at the best price.
Thank you all in advance.

You don't really need to worry about it, even the generic CDR (the blank kind with no brand on them, also the cheapest type out there) will work. And it really depends on what you're trying to write in order to buy the CDR. for ex: if you're copying computer games then any CDR is fine because computer CD rom can take anything. But if you're doing PSX games then it's another story because PSX lazer isn't as good as CD rom so you would wanna use the medium kind of CDR that has brand on them like TDK or imation or any brand as long as it has a brand. And the type of CDR that you buy would really depends on how worn out your PSX lazer is because if it's way out of shape then you would wanna record at a lower speed and use black bottom media (I've heard that PSX pick these up better than regular bottom CDR). And if you want to do VCD or SVCD for your DVD player then it's another story because some player will only take on certain brand or die color. For instance my Toshiba player, it wouldn't play any disc perfectly except light green bottom disc, while my APEX will play any disc. I hope this helps u decided which media to buy.

Also I like to buy CDR at stores like Bestbuy or other Electronic store they usually have CDR spindle on sale every week. with the rebate you can due out to about 3 dollars per 50 disc, but most likely you're going to get around 5 dollars per 50 disc.
